The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. 真的很像一个mini series的节奏，karma, oh karma.
前情有必要交代，但确实不必拖得太长。陀螺可能是想找个机会展示自己的freak show美学——马戏团的帐篷和诡异陈设令人联想到魏玛时期表现主义经典之作《卡里加里博士的小屋》。当陀螺沉迷于此时，批判与猎奇的分野则趋于暧昧模糊。
前半段实在太过冗长了，以至于煎熬了一半的时间，剧情紧凑起来突然觉得轻快了。

陀螺陷入一种现代文明与魔术幻觉交接年代的情调的营造而不能自拔，这直接影响到故事本身和人物塑造，一手好牌打的稀烂。

陀螺讲故事太没说服力了，美术也就勉勉强强。人物跑来跑去跑不出片场，肉眼可见的省钱，卡司阵容浪费观众一片赤诚。陀螺别谋害剧本了你还是专心去画画吧～

carnival总会自带一种独特的气质，而30s的更是如此，那是属于它的时代——嘈杂纷乱却又如漩涡般让人难以挪开视线。而整部影片从各种心理博弈到old days的“淡入淡出”方式都极其贴合那种气氛。

过于拖沓了
在团里的几个形象角色形成闭环
三星半。時代視覺元素行先，前半馬戲大觀園戲份比後半「戲肉」好，不過結局力度頗強—而這是因為前半的舖墊而觸發的劇力。
充满震慑力的主线也好，丛生而相互关联的支线也好，都非常适合陀螺按自己的风格发挥。
不是我以为的那种故事。花了将近一个小时来铺垫太长了，哪怕看到后来发现了伏笔也并没有很惊喜的感觉。演员演技虽然出色，但角色之间的互动和交锋并不多，整个故事像是一场大型回忆。直到最后，才明白曾经众人眼中被视为异类的怪人原来是这么诞生的。
