The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 不知道这是看的第几个版本的Macbeth了，不是最好的，也不是最差的，但算的上three witches的舞美、造型和表现手法能让我记住的版本了，lady macbeth略失望，Duncan 差点味，其余过得去。Joel Coen辛苦了~
华盛顿的台词功底太强大了，莎翁繁复精巧的句子从他口中吐出如此贴合，仿佛它们本应存在他的胸腔之中。最近也看过伦敦阿尔梅达剧院版的。科恩嫂这版的麦克白夫人没有了罗南的天真，更添肃杀之感，也就使后来的崩溃显得愈发绝望。遗憾的大概只有口音了…
在大荧幕看4:3的黑白电影，十分魔幻。全片简直像把舞台剧拍成电影，摄影很美，黑与白之间的层次感把握得好，构图出彩。然而对白基本上没听懂，文言文一样，完全没想到这么艰涩。
画面和风格很不错，但是情节方面可能只适合不怎么熟悉《麦克白》的观众。
表现主义&极简风格。
影调与非常刻意的“棚拍”结合得很好，莎翁的古英文独白被大量保留。科恩这次改编总的来说是保守的，更多地去还原了戏剧舞台的力量。

麦克白的故事改编的太中规中矩了，但是电影美学但是做到了极致，古典美的氛围拉满了，好像看一部伯格曼时期的看电影。
麦克白的陌生化。
这是属于麦克白的悲剧，也是属于我的悲剧。王冠掉落，魔法失效。黑白提升了观感，也突兀了缺点。
才看过一部<绿衣骑士>，我就熟悉了A24的影像风格，果然这味道纯正独特。黑白影像确实会增强演员的演技，我从没看过Denzel Washington有过这种水准的表演，即使是<训练日>里的表演，也不及这部。原先把麦克白搞成麦克黑让我还有些些不爽，但事实证明，老丹还是罩得住的。McDormand演得也很好，加上莎士比亚的全金句台词，还有什么可挑剔的？虽然熟的不能再熟，可是每次看到这些金句从演员嘴里吐出来，还是会疑惑：这世上怎么会有用比喻修辞用得这么好的人？
一切都是舞台形式,极简的置景配以黑白,呈现了强烈的光影,让角色的内心不言而喻,可惜调度很平庸,再配以读本形式的台词,基本没有任何创新,甚至腐朽地一直重复,只能说是一部偏电影化的舞台剧,而非电影本身.

第一次看麦克白的故事，感觉自己太无知了，因为我看别人的评价都是说这是一个太熟悉被说烂了的故事。那我这个第一次看这个故事的人的感受会不会不太一样。首先完看的版本没有英文字幕只有中文字幕，真是太可惜了，我根本不知道别人的翻译准不准确，那些台词又太难听懂，我怕我没有看到一些很精彩的台词，毕竟这是一部台词太重要的电影。但还是可以感受到一些古典美。然后就是电影的构图很赏心悦目，就是现在说的，随便哪一帧都可以截下来保存，可能这也是这种电影的特点，跟电影描述的时代有关。配乐也不错。然后就是这个烂俗的故事核心，怎么说呢，就虽然我是第一次看麦克白，但也觉得这样的故事已经被讲过无数遍了，一点新鲜感都没有，甚至有点觉得为什么这种故事的电影，浪费资源，可能也是这部电影拍的没什么亮点的原因吧。

像是在看舞台剧一样。莎翁可以拍，但没什么必要。个人不太喜欢丹泽尔·华盛顿扮演的麦克白，感觉就是把《籓篱》的表演模式照搬了过来。
在我这种没有艺术细胞的人眼中，就是个不太有意思的舞台剧，主角刺杀国王夺权然后被推翻的故事，带了点魔幻色彩。
影像风格拉满，舞台感极强，棚摄感很强，建筑颇有表现主义和极简风的糅合。可以看出很努力想打造一个全新的视觉效果来当新酒瓶，来装这个故事。但故事性确实很弱，麦克白的改变不流畅，有一种被导演控制的感觉，但依旧因为摄影想打高分。
