The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 本来就不喜欢罗生门，没想到本片也是类似的叙事方式。愚昧和愚蠢，神权和王权。我实在没明白为什么观众就能在女权还是非女权上争论不休，这真的谈不上女权不女权，难道为自己发声就是女权吗？这难道不是在混淆人权女权，甚至于框上中世纪对女人和穷人的迫害，来标榜现在的女权？
历史照进现实啊，一部女性追求公平正义的影片，从铺垫到最后决斗的高潮，看得人血脉贲张。

連續兩週的週一都能在大銀幕上看到我家戀愛少女，也太令人太開心了吧！雖然這次劇情一開始我有點懵，Chapter2的時候將信將疑，直到Chapter3瑪格麗特視角的時候os「だろね呵呵。 」一句話點評「最史詩級的小三片&我以為去看了歷史劇沒想到是個女權片」。 2021.10.18 in.ユナイテッド豊洲
居然是一个女性故事，第三个视角是精髓，雷导有大格局。
真相并不重要，人情世故才是。
最后，落到了metoo的女权主义，实在是太陈旧了。
zzzq到像样板戏，好在视效足够华丽，满足了一部分我对于中世纪领主生活的幻想。小变态真适合古装，活脱脱油画里走出来的。真实事件改编和结局加一星。
罗生门？还是金刚川，不明白一个故事演三遍有啥好处，反正时长是翻了三倍
一开始是被男性气质吸引，但本片其实是用现代的女性视角去拍中世纪——因其黑暗愚昧，更显出男性粗鲁野蛮的一面。最后那场决斗撕裂文明面具的同时，也把荒诞性推到了一个高潮。这样的戏剧性一直持续到了最后一句字幕——在那样的长夜里，好像确实没什么必要再结婚。
最后的生死斗好看！现在最后一口气没上来的电影太多了，高潮戏货真价实的难能可贵

最后男主胜利围观妇女为男女主夫妇鼓掌那里真是莫大的讽刺
分两次看完全片，前两个视角过于沉闷导致观感索然无味但铺垫详实稳健，最后玛格丽特的视角才真正升华了全片，也是电影的高潮和点睛之处。雷老爷子宝刀不老，用大制作拍小故事，服化道还原到位，战斗场面处理得依旧犀利震撼。好期待雷老爷子再拍一个中世纪的冷兵器战争片啊。
剧情依足OVA版该多好？回肠荡气的神开头和神结尾是多少人掉坑幕末的启蒙番啊，没有拍出来至为可惜。主题扣紧一个“情”字，佐藤健和村花都木讷了点，胜在外形完美吻合。质感十足的道具和服饰，巴的衣服再稍微粗糙点就好了，俩人过日子有点像过家家。系列唯一见血的杀阵，中间的几段看得人心旷神怡。日本剑戟片的狠辣写实与港式武打的翻腾灵动结合得水乳交融，想不到这桩大事成在谷垣健治手里。村上虹郎的总司造型太囧了，桂和高杉都好。
可怕的是中世纪的故事放在当代依然成立，没人关心女性的遭遇和真相，只有男人的尊严和群众吃瓜的兴奋。宣布决斗和决斗时国王和王后的表情对比很有意思。看完有点无法直视我家呆萌了怎么办？这大概也说明演得好吧，笑。还有我能说大本满满的权游乔佛里既视感吗…
骑士版罗生门，中世纪版Me too。男人都自大狂妄，一个以为自己是英雄，一个以为自己是情圣。而女性的主视角下的同一个故事却和浮于表面自夸自怜的男性版叙事完全不同，鲜活细腻，有血有肉。强奸戏两个不同版本之间的细微差异堪称惊悚。施暴者眼中的调情式拒绝却是受害者绝望的呼救。老爷子用致敬黑泽明的方式拍了一部毕恭毕正的正剧，却很神奇地用中世纪的故事讲了一个在今天依然重要的议题。这说明有些事情一直在那里本质上并没有改变。比如近一千年前的欧洲女人要指控男人强奸需要以命相搏，而一千年后的今天，世界上的许多地方难道不还是如此么？
对女权和MeToo的映射简直呼之欲出，除了有点过于工整以外别的都挺好。此外服化道及美术都是老雷一贯的高水平。
boring，这女性主义直白的，就差把这四个字贴脸上了。从剧作角度出发，和《间谍之妻》的女性主义比差了很多。
