The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 歲末寒冬爆米花佳片，回溫5度就會覺得無聊老套拖拉沒靈魂。
挺有意思的一部关于宗教和人性的恐怖片，整体不恐怖，也就是一些特效化妆。在时间和叙事上有创新。关于对神的追求者所要求的绝对纯净没有欲望是不可能达到的，人性中总有弱点有舍弃不了的东西，所以最终被魔鬼入侵和攻击也是宿命。类似的宗教恐怖片也很多。这一个的独特之处就是魔鬼最终驱逐了牧师体内的上帝。

还不错；两人办公桌对立，场景有创新；颜色好看；人设不错，经典模型
这个叙事节奏太灾难了，剪辑本来就稀碎还要广泛使用插叙，导致紧张悬疑的气氛都没营造到位就迫不及待地切换场景，仿佛导演背后有个巴班在用鞭子抽他屁股一样。此外全片恐怖要素的使用非但没有渲染出惊悚氛围，反而完美诠释了什么叫做装疯卖傻故弄玄虚，让人看得内心毫无波动甚至只想偷笑。

开头这不妥妥的致敬驱魔人嘛，我还以为驱魔人翻拍。总体看完还是不错的，创意十足，拖着十字架，四脚奔跑的上帝哈哈，导演真敢拍，也是少有的最后邪恶战胜正义电影。不过不是很懂西方的驱鬼模式，输出全靠吼，上帝圣母玛利亚全背一遍，效果也不咋地，恶魔最多头疼几下，恶魔呢超能力一堆，能打能杀，牧师也太弱鸡了。每当牧师絮絮叨叨的时候，真怕恶魔来句，你搁这喊尼玛呢～
没谁了，恶魔驱逐上帝离开神父的身体可还行。恶魔和神父互骂。
全程鬼喊鬼叫就是驱魔。驱魔过程里上了修女的神父，这个设定其实还蛮大胆的碰触了宗教禁忌，然而所谓信仰的展现和救赎……真的不是过家家的游戏？
