The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 过于平平无奇了，这老套剧情、几乎全程bgm，如果是国产bg绝对是会被我打一星的程度，戳演戏也是玩票吧，不然不会第一次是橡皮擦男孩，第二次就是这种劣质bl小说，本质还是在演自己，台词直娼霉霉真是太好笑了，以及果然本质ntxl都会记某届的奥斯卡影后是谁的程度笑死//estha的胸毛好可爱

养眼的青春电影，主角好看，摄影好看，剧情略俗套，除了女主以为其他配角都太干瘪。但是好看就行了，想去加州晒太阳。佩德罗加半星。

1.…见了那个斯拉夫男子，他知道1962年后的每一届奥斯卡最佳女主角获得者，所以我和他发生性行为了。2.…上一次我唱K的时候，我唱砸了我最喜欢的鲍伊的歌，我到现在仍觉得是耻辱。…… 3.看到片中有蛮多中文注释，感觉字幕组还挺用心的，但这样一部美国电影中的英语台词“1805”不直接翻译成“1805年”而翻译成“大清朝”，我表示无语；4. Oh, and fuck you for making me like Taylor Swift. 5.末尾听到 David Bowie《Five Years》惊喜一下，印象中，在我看过的电影里难得有影片使用这首歌当插曲。……
男二出来的时候我愣了一下。
戳爷这里出的两首歌太好听了，为歌而来。电影就无功无过了，当个小清新糖水还算行，戳爷的颜值我是get不到，但印度小哥长得蛮可以，最后原因竟然是选择学业笑死，亚洲文化正面直刚美国热浪青少年。
新人导演讲述自己的故事还挺真诚的。怼脸拍把戳拍得美美的，感觉以后可以专门找这个导演拍MV...（剧情就算了，男人靠得住母猪也上树啊）
感覺想説的有點多：親人離世、家庭衝突、健康問題…尤其是和媽媽的溝通火速和解。以及長輩們的臺詞有點陳腔濫調。這樣看這個夏天就像是兩個等待結果的人在抱團取暖，然後曲終人散？倒還算不落窠臼。蜜月期的交際有種日式的感覺，還是説所有的小甜餅都是這樣的？插入歌曲是否有點密集，我覺得除了Space Oddity之外都不是很必要。感覺他還挺適合，或者説一看就有點像這樣刻薄的角色。年輕人們的穿衣風格很可愛。一些偏暗的暖色調或者霓虹色有點戲劇化。
