The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 一把年纪了，看这样的爱情喜剧确实是没有啥感觉了。剧情一般，台词设计还是很不错的，很有挑逗意味。一部普通的爱情电影被定义为R级，实际上却啥也没有，可见台词有多么的dirty……三星！

非常喜欢这部电影的视觉效果，无论是监狱中的超广角，还是片尾两人的手指之间隔着的玻璃恰好成为了演员表、职员表介绍中间的分界线，都表现得非常巧妙。有点可惜的一点是这部电影叙事速度非常慢，还有点反高潮风格，让我不是特别能一直保持注意力的集中。
打过德扑的人都知道，算牌作为一种概率技艺，可以构成打牌整体策略，为长期盈利提供数学工具。但具体到某把牌，甚至某次比赛，某一天，某一个月，是否能赢钱都首先建基于运气，也就是偶然性之上。当代“神学”如果说还有什么是超验的，或许就是这种“偶然”，那种我们能从萨弗迪兄弟电影中大量感知到的混沌和不可预计性。而施拉德只能在老派的信仰体系里做得足够正统，在当代电影语汇显得足够正点。不过，这个电影最成功地方，当然是把赌博男人塑造如此帅，如此秀食可餐。
实在很闲的话可以浅浅看一下，感觉现在的爱情喜剧大不如以前了

睡了醒，醒了睡，说不清是我太累了还是这片真的蛮无聊的，鱼眼镜头的监狱片段视觉上很有意思，每次赢牌就要喊USA的那群人好讽刺。
本来想学习一下欢喜冤家这类是怎么解决俩人关系破冰这个问题的，结果第一幕还没结束俩人就在电梯里亲上了，原来是靠性欲解决的。。。
