The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 以为在蹦床上努力空翻，就能翻过平庸。在泳池里使劲憋气，就会不再普通。最划算的不是逃掉了自习，而是钻进泳池。最珍贵的不是追上了公车，而是没错过你们。最大的收获不是转体三十七周半，而是为平庸且普通的自己努力了一次。我们可以做海洋公园的劳力，被婚恋网站欺瞒，却不能被取消青春的表演资格。
很励志的电影，我们的青春并不是狗血的早恋爱情，有些热血瞬间注定难忘，只可惜选了国庆档，被两部大片挤压了生存空间。。。

不得不说被称呼为sister 都好容易成为女同（不是）Jamie 脱下眼镜和带上眼镜是不同一个人，头发放下和扎起来又是不同一个人。
OMG本人这个世纪估计不想再看“被宗教禁锢的爱情”了。如此一看，儒教有这么厉害的威力且不由得你不信，违背道德比违背神更可怕，孔子以肉身之躯完胜被钉的耶和华。(没有冒犯的意思)
青春悸动真好！爱她就像爱信仰，真的挺想理解这种心情。最后重逢那里真的绝了，竟然看哭，那句和我们想象中的一样吗，那句你应该在那里，那句每天都在想你，那句不打算放我走了吗，太爱了
或许就是因为几乎按着原版来拍的 少了当代表达反而让片子没有了油腻的青春感//我们似乎从来都是“长大了你就明白了”这样的教育 并不会真的让你明白寻找人生中真正热爱的重要性 也不会告诉你做自己会有多快乐 只会告诉你人生短短几十年必须要完成某几项世俗意义上重要的事情仿佛成功尽在掌握 我们仿佛没有试错的机会也没有走弯路的时间//可惜了 反叛太难 我们最后还是会认同唯一一种价值观
最后差点哭了。也就是年度最佳吧。这才是我们需要的lesbian movie。两位的火花已经溢出屏幕了。性张力真的爆棚。我需要一些时间缓缓，在看完以后。😭

暧昧和悸动也不只是属于青春期的，感情流动地太挠人了，细腻含蓄又克制，极限拉扯。姬崽的想念真的好长 “I think about you all the time, about us. Do you?” “Everyday.”

Aunt的角色是里面我最最最最心疼的，她真的太善解人意，太会隐忍，太包容，太爱这里的人了 （另外我要说这不是啥宗教，是邪教）
